Vintage Santo Domingo Multi Beaded Heishi Necklace

Vintage Santo Domingo Multi Beaded Heishi Necklace

A beautiful necklace that is both elegant, rustic and culturally significant stands out for its history, originally from the Kewa Pueblo in New Mexico and is one of the oldest forms of jewelry.

The process of making these small beads is time-consuming - the shells, known as heishi, takes patience, craftsmanship and an appreciation for their historical significance.

I see them sort of as a rustic Native American pearl in that they have a beauty all their own and some folks feel that they hold spiritual protection, healing and connections to nature.

These 7 strands of beads have the classic sterling silver closure and measure 12 1/4” in length.
