This beautiful carved collectible, cinnabar lacquer pumpkin shaped jewelry box, has a black enamel interior with a floral design.
Chinese cinnabar is a vermillion colored lacquer made from hardened Rhus Vernicflua tree sap. Cinnabar objects are said to have been made as early as 2,300 years ago through a painstaking process of painting as many as 300 thin layers of lacquer onto a wooden or bamboo base.
The box measures 6 inches across and 3 inches tall.
