Sebastiao Salgado, Brazilian, became a photographer after studying economics. Working in black and white, he has continuously focused on the fundamental dignity and relevance of humanity juxtaposed within the confines of war and despair. Salgado's images are haunting, dramatic and a reminder that the human condition is fragile, problematic yet worthy of our shared consideration.
