The history of the Kutchi dress of the Pashtun peoples of Afghanistan goes way back. Originally coming into prominence during the 16th and 17th century with the immigration of people to India from other parts of the world. Immigration, a primal instinct for so many people came from as far away as Germany, Afghansistan, Greece, Iran and Iraq to Gujarat. Kutchi embroidery has approximately 16 different types of stitches and styles and it is these variations that allow for the differentiation between the communities. For example, the Garacia Jat women wear only red or black chunis while Rabari women wear black open blouses or cholis with odhnis to cover the head.
