Mid Century Chinese Bronze Table Lamp Vintage

Mid Century Chinese Bronze Table Lamp Vintage

We suspect that the bronze was originally a Chinese vase and later recycled as a lamp. I also wonder if this bronze vase (clearly there were a few made into lamps) was made prior to the Chinese Revolution, as such pieces were not encouraged post the 1946 Revolution. So perhaps the vases were manufactured at the beginning of the 20th century and then this type of aesthetic was discouraged as to magnificent and theatrical? I'm just guessing as the Chinese developed a necessary pragmatism to their aesthetic endeavors post Revolution. The cast Bronze is very heavy and offers a wonderful patina of varying degrees of green.

It is apparent that the artist of the Chinese bronze table lamp has mastered the art of bronze casting and detail designs. As you can see the sockets were made in the US. Walnut was used for the lamp base and top, and the patinas cover with touches of emerald green here and there. On a whim we looked up our lamp and came across its sibling at 1stdibs at a considerable higher price but just as beautiful.

The lamp measures 23.4 inches long X 11 inches wide.
