Antique Silver Indian Jaal Purse Bag

Antique Silver Indian Jaal Purse Bag

This charming handmade clutch is an Indian silver Jaal purse that fits perfectly in the palm of one’s hand and is detailed with floral patterns on each side. There are filigree and repousse detailing on the purse, which is made of what is presumed to be metal with a light silver wash, and features pierced patterns on the body of the purse.

The handle is firm and round, with delicate floral etchings. It is a rectangular purse with a wider base, measuring 5.1 inches across, 3.1 inches tall (6.5 inches with the handle), with a 2.5-inch wide base. When opened, the depths of the clutch measure 2.5 inches, just enough to fit the essentials for a night out! The clasp in front latches on and reveals the contents of the purse with a hinge flap closure.

Similar designs have been found in purses from the Qing Dynasty, Indochina as well as small artists from Thailand.
